As a young child, I imagined myself caring for others, which ultimately led me to choose a career in nursing, specifically in critical care, where I worked tirelessly to make a real impact. But as I dedicated myself to family, advanced my career, and earned two Master’s degrees while navigating demanding roles in healthcare and the pharmaceutical industry, my personal health often took a backseat. Like so many others, I became caught in a cycle of yo-yo dieting, pouring energy into work and family but rarely into myself.
My turning point came in two powerful moments: the first when I realized that to be the active, engaged grandmother I envisioned, I had to make changes; the second on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Swiss Alps. What should have been a scenic hike became a painful reminder that I was not where I wanted to be physically. The struggle on that mountain became my moment of truth—I promised myself that if I could make it down, I would reclaim my health.
